Mixed
media paintings
created with indigenous island materials and colorful
paint!
On the island of Oahu, Hawaii, I create a continuous series
of paintings that are colorful, subtle and pleasant.
Some of the materials I use are - banana tree,
sugarcane and coconut husk fibers. Also included,
beach sand, wood, paper and other natural elements
indigenous to our Island. I use brushes and durable
paint to achieve the many layers of color. Each
work is unique. I trust you will enjoy my textured
paintings made in beautiful Hawaii.

My
first textured painting was created with Pine Needles
and Sand in New Jersey
In
southern New Jersey, especially in the Pine Barrens,
the ground is composed
of sand and covered with pine needles. After a walk
I decided to create a painting with objects from
the area. I applied sand, pine needles and paint
to a canvas. Once a layer was dry, I painted a different
color over it. Due to the textures, traces of the
previous color remained and after numerous layers
of paint, the color's became many. The surface of
the painting became visually exciting and the natural
materials offered themselves as piece's of the local
landscape.

The
Process of Creating the Mixed Medium Works on Canvas.
A
work of art with pieces of the environment is very special.
In the past I created handmade paper designs that consisted
of coconut husk, banana stems{leaf} and sugar cane grass.
Now, I apply the materials directly to the canvas. I
often use sand and paper which are good materials to
paint on. I enjoy making textured paintings. My inspiration
is purely to pleasure the observer's with color and
texture. When I begin painting, I prefer not to know
what the final result will be. Creating the picture
is more adventurous this way. Often the unpredicted
result is amazing.
